John Smith is a supporting character in the Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2. He is a commentator of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, alongside Gail Abernathy-McKadden. He is portrayed by actor John Michael Higgins.
John was formerly an A Cappella singer, as revealed in Pitch Perfect. He commentates the ICCAs and the World Championship, alongside Gail Abernathy-McKadden.
Throughout the film, John is seen commentating the ICCA's. He clearly shows his dislike for the Barden Bellas, and clearly favors the Treblemakers.
John is still working alongside Gail in the sequel to the original film, they follow The Bellas after they got suspended from performing at collegiate a cappella competitions. He also hosts a 'talk-appella' podcast with Gail.
John is shown to be a "misogynist at heart" as said by Gail. He proves this throughout both films, by making jokes about women. He is very open about his thoughts, and not afraid to tell like it is.
She is his co-worker, and has worked with him for several years now as commentators for the ICCA.
